Now that the Toshiba IKM43H, also branded as the ELMO MN43H, 768x494, 1/3-inch 410,000 pixel CCD, with micro lens technology and 17mm in diameter is discontinued, what is out there to replace it? As far as a direct replacement from Toshiba there hasn’t been a release and there doesn’t seem to be one in the works. Here are a few other options: Sony XC505, Elmo MN400 and KT&C bullet cameras. The Sony XC505 (XC-505) is an analog color camera with 768x494 resolution and a 1/3-inch CCD, a match with the IKM43H, however the match stops there. The IKM43H is 17mm in diameter and the XC505 is 22mm in diameter. The 43H is a micro lens technology and the XC505 is a NF lens mount type. The Toshiba IKM43H is a remote head camera, the Control Unit is the IKCU43, where the XC505 is a single body compact all-in-one solution. The Sony XC505 color camera is a good solution and a fairly new release from Sony with a long life span ahead. The Elmo MN400 is also an analog color camera and 768x494, however it is a ½-inch CCD, 19mm in diameter and a single body solution. This solution is smaller than the Sony 505 in size but it has a larger sensor size at ½-inch verses the 1/3-inch Toshiba. Elmo does offer a wide variety of lens options that can make this a viable option, but sensor size is often an issue and the product is questionable for lifecycle being an older release. Stretching the limits a bit the KT&C the KPC-HDB230M is a high definition 2.1 Megapixel color camera and 1/3 inch but offers an embedded lens of 3.7mm and is 23mm in diameter. This is also a viable option if the lens fits the application. These are three viable options for replacing the Toshiba IKM43H micro camera.
