Sony XCL-C280C HD CCD color CameraLink video camera features a 1/1.8-type EXview HAD CCD II™ (Charge Coupled Device) image sensor and a frame rate of 26fps with
Full HD (High Definition) resolution (1,940 x 1,460 pixels, each 3.69 x 3.69μm). Applications that require highly accurate pictures for optimized image analysis just found their match, with this high sensitivity, 2.8M resolution camera! This
Charge Coupled Device camera has true
progressive scanning for fast image capturing, so instantaneous events are captured flawlessly. As such, progressive scan CCD, is able to display, store and transmits moving images so that all of the lines of each frame are sequential. Obtaining the compete image, the CCD then reads the data, rather than waiting for a lengthy exposure process.

Because it captures everything at once, the shutter is considered “global”. With this global (frame) shutter sensor, scenes will be "frozen" in time, eliminating image distortion. Global shuttering is the most accurate representation of motion, and effectively addresses all of the potential rolling shutter artifacts. Since everything within each frame happens simultaneously, rapid events such as gunshots and explosions are depicted as we see them. Needless to say, this is a
must for all surveillance, military and machine vision applications, where highly accurate picture quality is the objective!
Completely uncomplicated migration from analog to digital with this color progressive scan PoCL
(Power over CameraLink®) camera, the XCLC280C digital video camera is exactly the same size as, and can use the same interface as most of its analog equivalents.
Inheriting Bulk Trigger and Sequential Trigger modes from
Sony’s XCL Series, this little
industrial camera also incorporates several distinctive features, namely
Shading Correction,
Defect Correction and
Temperature Readout. With these advancements, the XCL-C280C is ideal for military targeting, ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and traditional machine-vision applications where highly accurate pictures are required for optimized image analysis. Utilizing Sony’s EXview HAD CCD II technology enables the XCLC280C to capture clear images in NIR (near-infrared) wavelengths. When used with an infrared strobe, the camera produces outstanding picture quality for low light and NIR inspection applications.
With its imbedded
Shading Correction, the
Sony XCL-C280C color camera minimizes uneven image intensity caused by lighting and/or the lens. Its internal hardware processing reduces the need for external image correction normally performed via a frame grabber board and PC, and reduces the processing load of the PC, thus simplifying the processing task. In addition, these cameras are equipped with three optional lighting settings to capture clear images in varying lighting conditions.
Utilizing its
Defect Correction feature, the XCL-C280C camera can automatically minimize defective pixels (e.g., white and black dots) within the entire imaging area directly inside the camera, assisting in the simplification of the image processing. In addition, the XCL-C280C is equipped with three lighting settings to capture clear images in varying conditions.
Utilizing its internal
Temperature Readout sensor, the host device can receive temperature information by issuing a command, eliminating the need for a separate sensor and simplifying system configuration.
With both Bulk Trigger and Sequential Trigger modes in addition to a conventional trigger mode, the camera supports 16 memory channels that can store up to 16 different camera setups (e.g., exposure, and gain). Bulk trigger mode captures up to 16 images in rapid succession using a single hardware or software trigger, and sequential trigger mode, allows the camera the ability to capture a single image using successive setups stored in the memory channel with each software or hardware trigger. This is the
ultimate camera for military applications, where specific targeting is paramount.
The
XCL-C280C color camera is a resilient, compact size of 1-3/16 x 1-3/16 x 1-3/16 inches, excluding protrusions (29 x 29 x 30 mm excluding protrusions), and weighs only 2.0 ounces (56 g), and with its temperature sensor, vibration tolerance and 70G of shock resistance, is more than suitable for harsh environments applications.
PoCL is an extension of Camera Link requirements that allow frame grabbers to connect and furnish power to small cameras over a single Camera Link cable. A simple interface allows a single connection to the XCL-C280C into the BitFlow Neon CL frame grabber, and the ability to capture clear images, and deliver video to almost any computing program for processing and display is ready to go.
A ‘grabber ‘is an electronic device that secures single, digital still frames from an analog video signal or a digital video stream. It is typically used as part of a computer vision system, where video frames are acquired in digital form, and then are presented, collected or conveyed into unprocessed digital form.
The
BitFlow Neon CL (Camera Link) Frame Grabber, is the world’s
first PoCL (
Power over Camera Link) frame grabber! PoCL is the Camera Link standard for providing power to the camera over the CL cable.

As such, the
Neon-CL provides advantages to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), by reducing the necessary number of cables to
one cable required for data, power and control to the camera. This provides the suitability of Firewire or USB cables schemes with the addition of industrial cabling and much higher data rates - up to 255 megabytes per second.
With BitFlow’s SDK, adding the Neon-CL to your application is simple. The high performance Neon CL supports images up to 256K x 128K, and without a frame rate limit, supports both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. There is also a large number of programmable general purpose outputs and inputs that are not tied to the camera's timing. The
Neon-CL board supports not only simple triggering modes, but also complicated, application-specific triggering and control interactions with your hardware environment. Integration of the Sony
XCL-C280C color camera with the Neon CL is a simple task.
BitFlow’s FlowThru technology means that an on-board memory is not needed, even with the fastest cameras. This allows the Neon-CL to control, acquire, reformat and transfer video data directly into the user's application. Streamline your industrial imaging application with
Bitflow’s Neon-CL, the first PoCL (Power over Camera Link) frame grabber.
The Sony
XCL-C280C high definition camera is ready for any application where split-second video capturing is paramount, and, with its global shuttering, transmits total sensor data almost instantly. Coupling this camera with the
BitFlow Neon CL Frame Grabber, and you are assured reliable video delivery, simultaneous serial communications, and the hardy industrial features anticipated when using a frame grabber. This duo is ready for split-second action!
