Now available, the
Toshiba IK-4KH 3CMOS progressive remote head
4K ultra High Definition (HD) video camera is taking videography, broadcasting and even some inspection applications by storm! The world’s smallest 3-chip, ultra HD (UHD) remote head camera system delivers the best images possible, due in part to the sensor’s advanced image processing and unprecedented color accuracy in up to 1600 TV lines of resolution, and possesses the ability to switch video output between 4K, 1080p and 1080i formats enabling it to configure to an HD display and application.
Its versatility doesn’t stop there. Incredibly small and compact, this two-piece designed camera is a mere 1.28” x 1.52” x 1.61” (32.6mm x 38.6mm x 41mm) in size and, and 2.5 ounces (approximately 70 g) in weight. Functioning like a much larger camera, it can be controlled remotely via an RS232 and a C-mount lens mount for convenience and versatility. A 12-channel color adjustment capability leads to remarkable color precision and control, and with 5 user-configurable settings files to support various operating methods and circumstances, this
4K high definition camera trumps all other 4K cameras.

Toshiba 4K High Definition IK-4KH camera and IK-4KE Controller[/caption]
By the
Toshiba IK-4KH camera head‘s side is the
Toshiba IK-4KE, camera control unit for power and video output, which it accomplishes with stunning 1,600 TV lines, Ultra HD images. Easy to attach, the camera head connects to the controller through a serial port (cable length can go up to 15 meters, or over 49 feet). The 4K at 3840 x 2160 output is accomplished by means of 4x HD-SDI outputs from the camera controller. This controller, like the IK-4KH camera, is small in proportions, weighing only 1.7 pounds (approximately 600 g), and 4.33” x 1.58” x 7.72” (110 mm x 40 mm x 196 mm) in size. With 5 User-configurable scene files, a 12V DC±10% power supply, Auto / Manual (Selectable) White Balance, and Auto / Manual / OFF 1/60 – 1/10,000 Electronic Shutter, the camera and control unit excels when utilized in applications where space is limited.
With the ability to transform itself to whatever the application dictates, the IK-4KH/E is ideal for broadcasting, security, medical and military purposes, and is also perfect for industrial inspection. We touched on it in a
previous blog when this new 4K camera was first announced and now that it’s here, only seeing a still image on paper that this camera produces just doesn’t do it justice in terms of what it’s capable of. We were given the opportunity to see a demo of this camera in person last week and the attention to detail and true depth of the image this 4K camera can output (when integrated with compatible components like a 4k monitor) makes a standard HD image almost pale in comparison... almost.
The capabilities of this little
4K High Definition camera and
control unit should not be underestimated and definitely makes the higher price point of this new technology worth it in the long run. No longer should 4K be pigeonholed into only broadcasting solutions because inspection applications and medical applications like microscopy can benefit 10 fold by the detail they would be able to capture with minimal effort and just an initial investment. Really... if you have a chance to see this camera in person you must do it, it’s worth it.
