VMMOB-19 series of industrial grade monitors have just been introduced by Tru-Vu Monitors, Inc., and were specifically created for use in full sunlight.
Your application is in the dead of summer, in never-ending sunlight. The camera is able to capture everything in crisp, picture-perfect contrast … but how do you see the images on the monitor? Traditional video display monitors do not allow the viewer to see what is on the monitor because of the competing glare of the sun, reflections off the outer glass, or a minimum of screen brightness. Inconvenient, yes, but far more than that, as they make accomplishing the task, all but impossible.
OK, so you’re not in the desert, but your circumstances are the same – this is when your monitor choice is any one of the four
daylight-viewable Tru-Vu monitors. This just announced

Initially designed for use by the U.S. Military, the
VMMOB-19 monitors will endure temperatures ranging from a bone-chilling -22° on the cooler end of the thermostat, to +185°, or the temperature when water starts to boil. These dramatic temperature fluctuations mesh with their ability to not only withstand rugged environments but to remain resilient. Their 19” TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) Active Matrix Color LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) viewable monitor delivers distinct, sharp video images in intense daylight conditions - flawless and well-defined.
With a durable powder-coated steel enclosure and Tru-Vu’s proprietary TRU-Tuff treatment, maximum shock and vibration resistance are guaranteed. The TRU-Tuff treatment ensures that RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) silicone is used on all connections and essential components; all wires are dressed, tie-wrapped and secured, and ThreadLock (a single-component adhesive) is used on all screws to ward off loosening, leakage, or corrosion. The screen is optically bonded with protective anti-reflective glass, dramatically enhancing the quality of the images, and shielding the LCD panel from physical damage due to excessive ambient light. Their lockable on-screen display controls ensure accidental altering of set controls do not occur. Should a loss in power occur, the
VMMOB-19 monitor series have an auto restart feature.
The VMMOB-19 series monitors have LED (Light Emitting Diode) backlit LCD screens, and a large viewable area of 14.81” (W) x 11.85” (H) (376.17 x 300.98 mm), and low power consumption of 37 watts. A typical desktop computer uses about 65 to 250 watts.
With an impressive resolution of 1280 x 1024 Super Extended Graphics Array (SXGA), 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a notable viewing angle of 170 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically, the monitor is able to react with a quick response time of 5 milliseconds Trf. They feature 450 nits of brightness, 16.7 million display colors, and a 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) display resolution. Standard accessories include a 90-240 VAC power brick, a VGA cable, and an audio cable, plus a 3-year warranty from TRU-Vu Monitors, Inc.
The differences in the
VMMOB-19 series of industrial-grade monitors are in three areas:
- Video Inputs: the VMMOB-19S has VGA, S-Video, Composite NTSC/PAL, and Auto-Recognition; while the VMMOB-19B has VGA, Composite (BNC Loop-Thru) NTSC/PAL, and Auto-Recognition; the VMMOB-19C has VGA and DVI-D, and the VMMOB-19b-24 has VGA, Composite (BNC Loop-Thru) NTSC/PAL, Auto-Recognition;
