One possible downside (depending on the intended purpose of the camera) is that it offers an image that is real-time with no integration (integration is still possible on a computer, using image-stacking software) but if real time capture is all you need then it's a great camera, especially when coupled with either an aspherical lens (ex. 6 or 8mm f/0.8).
